Sound

With Audio reactive on, the sound effects move with sound. Not every lamp comes with a microphone:

  • A lamp with a microphone reacts to the music or noise around it.
  • A lamp without a microphone can react to the sound another lamp on the same local network hears: set that lamp's Network audio mode to Send and this one's to Receive (see below).

Turn it on in the lamp's Sync tab - or in the cloud panel, under a light's gear, or for a whole group with the music note on the group's card - and pick one of the effects that react to sound.

Instead of sound, the effects can follow the beat of music programs on the lamp's network: see Ableton Link. Switching that on switches Audio reactive off, and the other way round.

Under Settings in the Audio reactive section:

  • Sensitivity - how strongly the lamp reacts to its microphone.
  • Auto level - keeps the reaction lively in a quiet room and in a loud one. Normal suits most rooms.
  • Scale - how loudness turns into brightness.
  • Network audio mode - Send shares this lamp's sound with other lamps on the network, Receive uses the sound another lamp sends, so several lamps - with or without a microphone of their own - react to one microphone.

Sensitivity, Auto level and Scale are about the lamp's own microphone; on a lamp without one, only Network audio mode matters.

Network audio only works between lamps in the same local network - on the same Wi-Fi at home, for example. It does not go through the cloud, so lamps in different places cannot share sound, even when they are in the same group.

It also keeps the lamp's processor and its Wi-Fi busy: while it sends or receives sound, the lamp's page can react more slowly and its Wi-Fi connection can get slower. Switch Network audio mode back to Off when you do not need it.

Tick Enable on boot to keep it on after a restart.

Without sound

A lamp that hears nothing - no microphone and no network audio, or Audio reactive switched off, and no Ableton Link session - still plays the sound effects: they move to a made-up beat instead. Sound sim picks which one; you find it with the effect's settings in the cloud panel's Effects & colour, and on the lamp's own page. In a synced group, all lamps use the same one, so they move together.
