Palettes in the cloud
Besides the palettes WLED comes with, a lamp can keep palettes of its own - made in the palette editor on the lamp's own page, or copied to it from here. The lamp lists them after WLED's as Custom 0, Custom 1 and so on, and so does its Effects & colour panel here.
The My Palettes tab on the Presets & Palettes page keeps palettes safe in your account, whatever happens to a lamp, and puts them on any of your lamps.
A lamp needs the latest firmware for its own palettes to show in the cloud and to take palettes from it.
Saving one
- From a lamp: open Effects & colour on it and press the cloud button beside one of its own palettes, at the end of the palette list.
- New palette, at the top of the My Palettes tab, makes one from scratch in the palette designer.
- Save to my palettes on the Community tab keeps one somebody shared.
A palette is only kept once: if one with exactly the same colours is here already, whatever either is called, it is not saved again - you are told which one it is.
A preset that plays one of a lamp's own palettes brings that palette along wherever it goes - see Presets in the cloud.
The cards
Every palette has a card with its colours and a lamp playing it with WLED's Rainbow effect. They are listed by name, or by Colour with the order above them - remembered on each device.
On each card:
- Copy to a light… puts the palette on one of your lamps. Pick the lamp, then the slot - Custom 0, Custom 1 and so on. The dialog starts with the slot that has these colours already, if the lamp has them, and otherwise the lowest free one. If you pick a slot in use, it shows the palette that would be replaced. A group that keeps its presets synced is listed as one: every lamp in it gets the palette.
- Preview plays the palette on its card. Live previews at the top plays all of them at once, as on My Presets.
- Try on… shows the palette on one of your lamps - or a whole group that is synced in the cloud - for 30 seconds, then the lamp goes back to what it showed before. Nothing is kept on the lamp.
- More has the rest:
- Design opens the palette in the palette designer.
- Share… shares it on the Community tab - unless a palette with the same colours is there already, which it tells you.
- Rename it with the disk button beside its name, or delete it from the cloud. Lamps that have it, and presets saved with it, keep their copy.
The palette designer
The palette designer changes a palette, or makes a new one, with a large lamp playing it as you go.
- The bar shows the palette from start to end, with a marker under it for each colour. Choose a marker to change its colour - with the wheel, or as a hex code - or its position, from 0 to 255.
- Click the bar to add a colour there. It starts as the colour the palette has at that point.
- From a photo… under the bar takes the main colours of a photo or picture and lays them along the bar, in rainbow order. The picture is read on your phone or computer - it is not uploaded anywhere. Change the colours as you like afterwards.
- Drag a marker to move it. A colour stays between its neighbours; the first and the last stay at the ends.
- Remove this colour takes the chosen one out. A palette has at least two colours and at most 18 - as many as a lamp's palette file holds.
To see it on a real lamp as you go, pick one under Show on a light, below the lamp - or a whole group that is synced in the cloud. The palette plays there with WLED's Rainbow effect for as long as the designer is open, and the lamp keeps nothing: it goes back to what it showed when you close the designer, and if the page is closed or loses its connection, it goes back by itself within a minute.
Nothing is saved while you design: the palette changes only when you choose Save. Cancel, the close button and the back gesture ask before throwing changes away. A new palette needs a name next to Save.
Palettes in a synced group
A group that keeps its presets synced keeps the lamps' own palettes the same too, so a preset that plays one plays the same colours on every lamp. A palette added, changed or deleted on one lamp changes on all of them.
