Presets in the cloud
The Presets & Palettes page has three tabs: My Presets keeps presets safe in your account, My Palettes keeps palettes - see Palettes in the cloud - and Community shows presets and palettes everyone has shared - see Community presets.
To save one, open Effects & colour on a lamp, go to Presets and press the cloud button on the preset - or make one from scratch with New preset (see The effect designer below). New playlist makes a playlist from presets saved here (see Playlists).
Presets kept here stay safe even if a lamp is reset or replaced. A playlist is saved together with the presets it plays.
Presets never include a brightness: playing one leaves a lamp as bright as it is. That goes for every preset - saved here from a lamp, made in the designer, shared on the Community tab, and saved on a lamp from Effects & colour or from the lamp's own page. A preset on one of your lamps that still has a brightness from before is rewritten without it the next time the lamp is online.
A preset is only kept once: if one with exactly the same settings is here already, whatever either is called, it is not saved again - you are told which one it is.
Every preset has a card with a lamp showing it and what it plays - a playlist a sign instead of the lamp, and how many presets it plays. The card also names the kind of light the preset is for. They are listed by name; the order above them can sort them by Colour - red through to pink, then the many-coloured ones, then white and grey - or by Speed, slowest or fastest first, by how much each actually moves. The order is remembered on each device.
On each card:
- Copy to a light… puts the preset on one of your lamps, under the name it has here - also over a preset that was at that number before. A group that keeps its presets synced is listed as one: copy it there and every lamp in the group gets it, and a lamp that is away gets it when it is back. Copied to another kind of light, it is converted - see Kinds of light.
- Preview plays the preset on its card. Live previews at the top plays all of them at once. It starts as set under Live previews on by default in Account settings - on, unless you switched that off - and flipping it here is remembered on each device. Older computers and phones can find all of them at once heavy.
- Try on… plays the preset on one of your lamps - or a whole group that is synced in the cloud - for 30 seconds. The card counts down and Stop ends it early; afterwards the lamp goes back to what it showed before. It works as on the Community tab.
- More has the rest:
- Design opens the preset in the effect designer.
- Share… shares the preset on the Community tab - unless a preset with the same settings is there already, which it tells you.
- Rename the preset with the disk button beside its name, or delete it from the cloud. Lamps that have it keep their copy.
A playlist's card has Copy to a light…, and renaming and deleting in More.
Kinds of light
Every preset is for a kind of light: Ice Light, Cube, Crystal, LED Stripe or Panel. Saved from a lamp, it is for that lamp's kind; its card names the kind and draws the preset as that light, each part with its own look. Cubes of every size are one kind, and their presets are drawn on an 8×8 cube; stripes of every length are one kind too. Presets saved before there were other kinds of light are Ice Light presets.
With presets for more than one kind, a filter above the cards shows All lights or one kind.
Copied to another kind of light, a preset is converted, and the copy dialog says how:
- A light with one look - an Ice Light, or a light in one part - shows one part of the preset: its main part, unless you choose another.
- A light with parts shows the preset's parts. You choose what each of its parts shows; copied to a group, its lights' parts take the preset's parts in turn.
- To a light of the same kind with as many parts - a 5×5 cube's preset to an 8×8 cube, say - it is fitted without asking.
The preset here stays as it was made.
The effect designer
The effect designer changes a preset's look, or makes a new one, with a large lamp showing the result as you go. It has everything Effects & colour has on a lamp:
- Colours: the three colours, and the palettes - WLED's, and under Your palettes the ones on your Palettes tab. A preset made with one of yours brings it along wherever it is copied.
- Effects: every effect, with search and the type filters, and under the list the effect's own sliders and options - and the sound simulation, for an effect that follows sound.
It has no brightness: presets carry none.
Nothing is saved while you design: the look only goes into the preset when you choose Save. Cancel, the close button and the back gesture ask before throwing changes away.
To see it on a real lamp as you go, pick one under Show on a light, below the lamp in the designer - or a whole group that is synced in the cloud. Every change then shows there too, for as long as the designer is open. When you close it, the lamp goes back to what it showed before - and if the page is closed or loses its connection, the lamp goes back by itself within a minute. Pick Off to let it go back straight away.
- Design, in a preset's More, changes that preset. Its name stays - rename it in More too.
- New preset, at the top of the My Presets tab, asks first What is it for? - the kind of light the preset is made for. The designer shows it as that light while you design it, and it is converted when it goes to another kind. Cancel there closes the designer. It starts from a plain orange light; give it a name next to Save.
A preset whose parts each have a look of their own - made on a crystal, for example - keeps them: the designer changes its main part.
A preset saved from the designer is still only kept once: if it ends up the same as another of your presets, it is not saved and you are told which one it matches. Playlists cannot be designed - design the presets they play.
A preset that is shared stays on the Community tab as it was shared, whatever you change here. A playlist saved here keeps its own copy of every preset it plays: change one of those presets in the designer and the playlist goes on playing the old look - the designer tells you which playlists that is.
Playlists
New playlist, at the top of the My Presets tab, makes a playlist from presets saved here:
- Give it a name.
- Pick the presets it plays, in order, and how many seconds each plays. + Add a preset adds a row; the arrows move a row, × removes it.
- Set the Transition between them, how often it Repeats (0 plays it forever) and what plays Then, when the repeats are over. Shuffle plays them in a random order.
- Choose Save playlist.
Copied to a lamp, a playlist takes the presets it plays along, each to a free number there - except those the lamp, or a group that keeps its presets synced, has already with the same settings, whatever they are called there: the playlist plays those where they are, and they are not copied again. Playlists cannot be shared or designed.
Preset numbers
Presets in the cloud have no number of their own. When you copy one to a lamp, the dialog suggests the lowest numbers that are free on that lamp. You can change them. If a number is already in use, the dialog names the preset it would replace before you copy - and the playlists on the lamp that play it, which then play the new one. Use free numbers moves any that clash back to free ones.
A playlist is copied with the presets it plays, and it is changed to play them at their new numbers. A preset it plays that the lamp has already is marked already there, at the number it has on the lamp: it is played there and not copied again. Give it another number to copy it anyway.
The lamp's own palettes
A preset can play one of the palettes a lamp keeps itself - Custom 0, Custom 1 and so on, see Palettes in the cloud. Saved to the cloud, it keeps that palette with it, so it plays the same colours on any lamp - and on the Community tab. The card names the palette it plays.
Copying such a preset to a lamp puts its palette there too. The dialog shows it under the preset numbers, with a slot for it:
- If the lamp has these colours already, their slot is chosen and nothing is written - already there.
- Otherwise the lowest free slot is chosen, and the preset is changed to play the palette there - so a lamp with something else in the slot the preset came from keeps it.
- Pick another slot if you like. One in use shows the palette it would replace.
A lamp saved from with older firmware cannot send its own palettes: the preset is saved without it, and you are told so.
